#24 fly a plane

This is an exciting one!

Learning to fly isn’t something that has long been on my bucket list. But as I’ve been working this year to learn more about flight and to overcome my fear of flying, I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and do a trial lesson. And I LOVED it.

Training aircraft are typically light propeller planes, so I flew a Piper Warrier (PA28) which is a single prop plane. The lesson was super straightforward, with the instructor explaining the basic principles on the ground and pointing out the key instruments and controls and then taking the plane up for a 60 minute flight. While the instructor handled the takeoff and landing, I was able to do the majority of flying in the air, including ascending, descending, turning, flying straight and level and the approach for landing.

I used West London Aero Club for this training and had a fantastic experience with them. This isn’t something I saw myself loving but they made the experience extremely reassuring and straightforward. It’s an expensive hobby to pursue but there is really nothing like it and I can’t wait to be back in the air again!
